What Constitutes Eating Healthy?

What does constitute eating healthy? If you were to ask 50 different people what foods are healthy foods, you would get 50 different answers. And, to a certain extent, that is the way that it should be, because there is no one-size-fits-all eating plan that is right for everyone.

There are hundreds of ideas and opinions out there on how to eat healthy and I am by no means an expert on the subject myself. However, I do know what has worked for me and this is the information that I’m passing along to you today. My aim is to give you healthy substitutions for America’s favorite foods.

Eating healthy foods like this The foods that I will be talking about will be wheat-free, gluten-free, sugar-free, artificial sweetener-free, and most of all, guilt-free. They will also be mostly raw, except for the baked goods and meat. In addition, they will actually taste good - I wouldn’t be eating them if they weren’t delicious!

I know, I know, right now you are saying, “Raw foods? Yuck!” and you are thinking “rabbit food”. But there is so much more to raw foods and you will be amazed at the combinations you can come up with for eating healthy. You can click on the link for more information as to why we eat our food raw.

The main reason for eating raw food is that we can K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple and Speedy). Raw food is easier to fix and to transport. It’s a whole lot easier to keep something cold and take it with you for lunch than it is to keep it hot.

In all things dealing with eating healthy, your body is the best gauge of what is right for you no matter what anyone, including me or your personal health care practitioner, says. If you are tuned in to your own body, it will give you clues as to what works for you and what doesn’t.

If something does not resonate with you and does not work for you after sincerely trying it, then don’t do it. The only expert on your health is YOU.

If something just seems different to you from what you are used to and seems “weird”, I urge you to at least try it and see if you might like it before automatically dismissing it. It could make a world of difference to you and your health.

How to tell if you are eating healthy foods

Generally speaking, eating right for your body type should make a lasting improvement in your energy, mental capacity and emotional well-being. If an hour or so after eating:

* you feel hungry even though you are physically full

* you crave sweets

* your energy level drops

* you feel hyper, nervous, angry, irritable or depressed

then you are not eating healthy foods for your body.

For holistic health, you will need to become an expert label reader. By minimizing or preferably eliminating processed foods, you will not have to do it very much.

Things to look out for on labels are MSG (also under many of its aliases), trans fats (listed as either hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oils), sugar, and anything ending in “ose”, such as dextrose, maltose, sucralose, etc.

None of these things constitute eating healthy so avoid any and all of them. The links above will give you more details on why to avoid them, plus alternate pages on this site will give you other things to look out for.

One of the easiest ways to be sure of what is in your food is to either buy locally from farmers or stores that you know personally, or to grow the food yourself. Many local growers use organic methods but are not certified because of the extra time and expense involved. You can also find out if they are using any genetically modified crops too.

If you grow your own food, then you have total control over what goes in and on both the soil and the plants. Therefore you can have organic food for eating healthy easily. The above links will show you how to do both, as well as how to take your food with you while traveling. You can even grow your own sweetener, Stevia.

It is far better for your health if you do not ever use a microwave oven. This link will tell you why and give you alternative things that you can use to heat up necessities such as hot drinks, soups, popcorn, etc. That’s another good reason to eat only raw foods - you don’t have to heat them.

I do know that during the winter, your body craves hot foods so I have given you plenty of ways to have those. I don’t want you to feel deprived in any way – there are so many great alternatives out there if you are willing to experiment!

This way of eating healthy will give your body the tools it needs to keep you free of disease and give you natural healing. When your body is in top notch condition, it can ward off any harmful bacteria or viruses that come along.

Your body will thank you for choosing this path of eating healthy for both yourself and your family. This will allow you to take control of your health with the cooperation of a compassionate health care provider who will work in partnership with you.
