A naturally healthy pet makes a much better furry four-legged friend in order to help us humans be our best. Just like our diets tend to have too much processed food, so do the diets of our family pets.
Most of the kibble that is sold for pet consumption has way too high a percentage of carbohydrates, sometimes even 50% or more. No matter what you think your diet should be, cats and dogs are designed by their maker to be carnivores and straying from this fact is very detrimental to their health.Domestic animals today are starting to have the same kinds of problems as their humans – diabetes, obesity, heart problems, etc. They must have a balanced diet designed for their particular needs, and table scraps don’t cut it for making a naturally healthy pet.
If you knew what was in your pet’s processed food, it would probably make you sick. Meat by-products means rendered animals which you can read about in “Benefits of Raw Milk” under the headline “Inhumane Agribusinesses”. It’s not a pretty picture, I can assure you.
Into the midst of all of this comes, Dr. Karen Becker, a veterinarian with a holistic viewpoint. She has a free newsletter and has just come out with a cookbook for canines and felines.
Her new book, “Dr. Becker’s Real Food For Healthy Dogs and Cats Cookbook” shows you how to make balanced meals for your favorite friend. It can be found at Dr. Becker’s website.
I have just ordered a copy for myself and am thrilled that she is offering this for those of us who love our four-leggeds. I’m sure that my babies - cats Angel, Braveheart and Leo - will be happy to taste test it for me when I get it and try it out on them.
Here are some suggestions from the book. Good foods for cats: as TREATS only, offer them some zucchini, cantaloupe, dark green leafy vegetables (salad withOUT any dressing), berries and raw nuts. Of course, they will tell you whether it appeals to them or not.
NEVER feed them grapes, raisins, onions or macadamia nuts. These items can make them very ill and require veterinary services.
I hope that you will order a copy for yourself and help your pets to live a long and loving life with their favorite human. Even if you decide not to follow the steps in the book, it will give you some important information on how to choose the best food for your pets.
One of the main points for cats is to not have carbohydrates equal more than 50% of the dry food. If you want to have some help in choosing better products for your pets, click on the picture to the left and it will take you to some quality items for both dogs and cats.
