Raw Living Food Recipes - Grab and Go Goodness
Raw living food recipes make life a lot easier because they are all literally Grab and Go. That’s what I love most about them – they’re quick to fix and take with me. They have to be with my crazy schedule! All of the raw living food recipes I have included here had to meet certain criteria for optimal health before they could be added to the book or site. They had to be wheat-free, gluten-free, sugar-free and artificial sweetener-free as well as being fast and simple to fix. Many are even vegan. They had to fit into the three nutritional types and they had to taste good and be portable. The ingredients needed to be easy to find or to order on-line, and preferably be organic. I tried to make sure that you aren’t left with something you can’t use in another recipe, because using organic ingredients in raw living food recipes means they don’t store well for long periods. Most of the recipes are raw except for the baked goods that use coconut flour and coconut oil, which is extremely good for you. Please see the link to find out why. How To Travel With Food I am currently a massage therapist at Forrest Hills Mountain Resort in the north Georgia mountains and I don’t know from one day to the next whether or not I will have any massages scheduled. So I may have planned a day to do errands and the night before find out I have two massages to do. Or I might go to the Spa thinking I have two massages to do and end up with six. So to be able to have optimal health at all times, I always carry my lunch of raw living food recipes with me wherever I go. It’s too far to go back home to eat (and I may not have time). Plus there are absolutely no other food places closer to me than 15 minutes away from the resort. Also, because I am blessed to live across the valley from Amicalola Falls, one of Georgia’s most beautiful state parks, I have to travel 20 minutes to get to any bank, post office or grocery store. It’s 30 minutes to GA 400 where my favorite grocery store, Kroger, is located. Therefore, when I go out to do errands, it may take the whole day because I save them up to do all at once. So again, I always take my lunch of raw living food recipes with me to ensure good health for my body. How Do I Do It? Every raw living food recipe I make has enough to last at least four days for one person. If there are more of you in your family, then of course, adjust accordingly. When I make a large raw living food recipe, I put it into smaller containers such as food-grade plastic ones with lids. I know that it would be better to use glass, as it is more inert and won’t leach anything out, but I have to be practical. Glass breaks too easily and it won’t fit into my cooler with most lids which are designed for the containers. I use left-over tubs from things like miso or peanut butter (from make your own places), etc. These are usually 16 oz. sizes and I fill them up totally. That way I am getting four servings of vegetables from each of the raw living food recipes and I don’t take anything else. I buy the whole package of Applegate Farms chicken or turkey meat from Whole Foods, which is several birds put together in one parcel. These are organic and pre-cooked with only salt, water and paprika as seasonings, so they are ready to use and there is no waste. Then I take it home and cut it up into 3 oz. portions and put two apiece into baggies and freeze them. Since a 3 oz. portion is the size of a deck of cards, I frequently get one out to make sure I haven’t over-estimated as I cut them up. I take out what I need daily and put it into the refrigerator to thaw. As soon as I finish one package, I take another one out of the freezer to have it ready for the next two days. You can alternatively cook up four pieces of pork chops or a steak and use that instead. I normally use boneless because that way I can eat them more easily with one hand while I’m driving (yes, I know I shouldn’t, but I have to be practical.)
Also, I don’t have to worry about bones and having them smell and attract critters. Since we do have bears up here, that is a real problem. However, if cost is a factor, by all means buy bone-in cuts to go with your raw and living food recipes.
Here is how you actually carry your lunch with you as you go about your daily routine. I use a plain six-pack Coleman type cooler that you can pick up anywhere during hot weather. Buy some of those small blue ice packs (mine are Rubbermaid brand) that fit in easily.I take one of the small blue ice packs and put it in one corner of my six-pack Coleman cooler. I use old mismatched cutlery instead of plastic ones, since that is safer to use with these raw and living food recipes. I then put the meat in its packaging on top of that. The veggie container goes to the side of the ice pack with a dessert of some kind (muffins, GORP bars, etc.) on top. If you use the chocolate bar recipe, be sure to put it on the blue ice pack too since it will melt at 76 degrees F. It will definitely melt in your hand, not in your mouth if it is summertime! And there you have it – raw living food recipes on the run! I just change out the meat and veggies each day and have a small variety of healthy desserts to take along with me to satisfy my sweet tooth. For dinner-time when I get home, I choose a veggie container again, and a meat (usually one I cook such as grass-finished ground beef or Coleman brand chicken sausages) and, if I feel particularly fancy that evening, I put them on a plate. If not, I eat them out of the containers (frequently in front of the computer, which I know is not optimal) and that gives me one less thing to wash. When you do cook meat, you need to do it Low and Slow, like this page explains. If you eat fish, which is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, you need to make sure they are as mercury free as possible, as this page cautions. I choose to eat to live, rather than living to eat and the health benefits for me have been enormous. Rarely do I depart from this routine and I don’t have cravings and I don’t eat as much as I used to. I’m simply not hungry and the amounts I do eat satisfy me very well.
Traveling For Several Days With Your Own FoodIn a former life, I used to videotape Ballroom Dance competitions around the country. I also taught dancing for 26 years. To avoid having to eat hotel food or fast food, I would take my own raw living food recipes with me. To do this, I first tried taking a large rolling cooler with me with ice packs from home. But at a hotel, I would have to put ice in to try to keep things cold and then would have a problem with it melting and leaking out. Plus it did not keep items cold enough and I ended up getting sick one time from spoiled food. Not a good way to go.
But then I discovered this great cooler from Coleman that has a plug which goes into a car cigarette lighter (on the left in the lower right picture) and keeps food cold that way. You can also turn the cord around and heat up things in it. No more spoiled food and the cooler kept the raw living food recipes at a good temperature! It has an electric adapter (shown in the middle of the picture on the right) that allows you to plug it in when you get to your destination. That worked perfectly for me – Grab and Go Goodness the easy way! I just put it on a rolling stand to take through airports and had healthy food whenever I wanted it, even on the plane. Check your clothing luggage and carry the raw living food recipes on with you if you are really serious about having optimal health.
